Qualifications and Areas of Practice
Kathleen Schlegel, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist (NYS License # 001518) with years of experience working clinically with individuals, couples, and families with a variety of physical, emotional, and relational challenges. Kathleen started her career working for nonprofit agencies addressing addiction and mental health in diverse communities within rural, urban, and suburban environments. She specializes in treating a variety of sexual challenges such as:

- Sexual Trauma Recovery
- Sexual & Pelvic Pain (GPPPD)
- Orgasmic Disorders
- Erectile Disorder

Education and Training
Kathleen graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a B.A in Psychology and earned her Master’s in Family Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University with specialization for Sex Therapy. Kathleen currently is in post-graduate training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family to continue her passion for learning and staying up to date in Systemic Couples Therapy
Kathleen values the therapeutic relationship with her clients and has an empathetic, humanistic approach. She believes that her clients are the experts of their lives and she remains open and curious to fully understand one’s perspective, values and beliefs. Kathleen takes on a collaborative approach in helping her clients achieve their personal and relational goals.
Kathleen’s therapeutic approach is integrative as she utilizes techniques and lenses from a variety of systemic treatment approaches. Kathleen is culturally competent and adapts her approach to the diverse needs of each client, couple, and family. She uses an Inter-systems Approach in fully understanding her clients’ complexity (systems: biological, psychological, inter-relational, family of origin, culture/environment) and its interaction to their presenting problem. Kathleen will meet with couples and families together and separately throughout treatment and assign relevant homework assignments on occasion, depending on their goals and progress. While Kathleen provides support for clients to accomplish their desired goals she also aims for her clients to create self-awareness and compassion for themselves and others.

She is also a member of American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).
